Parissa Massahikhaleghi MD, MPH is a medical doctor with passion for prevention and decreasing the burden of non-communicable diseases through lifestyle changes. She is the founder and president of IRAN Association of Lifestyle Medicine (IRALM).
Dr. Parissa graduated with medical doctor degree from Shahid Beheshti Medical University, Tehran, Iran in 2010 with high GPA and outstanding academic performance. Her passion for public health, prevention and treating root causes of diseases inspired her to pursue her second degree in public health at one of the pioneer and leading centers for public health education. She earned her Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Lifestyle Medicine from Loma Linda University, CA, USA in 2013. She completed her field practicum at Loma Linda Veterans Hospital in department of Preventive Medicine with focus on smoking cessation. Her internship with Loma Linda Lifestyle Medicine Institute was another successful experience in the field, where she became CHIP (Complete Health Improvement Program) certified. She has been a member of American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) since 2013 and was recipient of Lifestyle Medicine Leadership Grant in 2014.
Dr. Parissa is ECFMG certified and has experience in different USA clinical settings.
After her return to her home country in 2017, she noticed the necessity for implementing lifestyle medicine in the current clinical practice and healthcare system. Therefore, she started her lifestyle medicine clinic at Pars Hospital in Tehran, with focus on weight loss by means of healthy lifestyle. She is also a research assistant at Preventive Medicine and Public Health Research Center, Iran University of Medical Sciences, where she works on different projects about burden of diseases and healthcare systems. The need for an organized lifestyle medicine discipline for the physicians as well as patients, motivated her to establish IRALM. Her communication with international organizations for their support was coincident with her connection with Dr. Leila Khalaj, who became her partner and collaborator for starting IRALM.
She is determined to introduce and incorporate lifestyle medicine in the current healthcare practice. Her ultimate goal is to spread the message of lifestyle medicine and promote healthy lifestyle for healthier and happier nation.
